Bruschetta Bout it Burger

All children want attention, especially the middle child (not speaking from experience). When Linda convinces Bob to make an audition tape for the “Hey Good Cookin'” cooking segment on the local morning show “Get on Up”, Gene can’t help but get in on the action.

Donning his newly acquired Sasquatch mask, he pops and locks through the video background before pouncing on the burger Bob just made, devouring it in seconds. The formula proves a success, and Bob gets a chance on the morning show.

As Bob and Gene fight for the limelight, Louise gets pulled into a prank war, the likes have never been seen: superglue, habanero peppers, kitty litter, etc. The arms race escalates until Linda, the level-headed adult in the episode, steps in and ends things once and for all by flashing the live telecast.

Before we get to the Burger of the Day, let’s get to the episode rundown:

The Bruschetta Bout it Burger is an all-beef patty (80/20), topped with a thick slice of fresh mozzarella and drenched in a topping of tomato, basil, garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. All of this sits nestled inside a sliced French baguette.

Overall, this burger tastes amazing. It is fresh — thanks to the ingredients — and light. The topping is easy to make, and didn’t take more than 10 minutes total. The mozzarella was warm, but not too runny after sitting on top of the burger for a few minutes, creating an interesting mouth feel.

I remarked to Jill that with this burger, the thing you taste the least is the patty — and that’s not a bad thing. Usually, a burger hits at several different levels, with the anchor of the race being that savory morsel of meat. But thanks to the vinegar and basil, this burger results in a more complex taste, one that is more cohesive and free flowing than separate.

Combine it with some mozzarella sticks and a great beer, and you’re riding down the water canals of burger love!
