The Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Zucchini Burger

Parenting requires a regular audit of your style — too hard, too lenient, not enough cheese in their diets? — and the Belchers are no exception. When Bob realizes that he is depriving his kids of a childhood, as he was by making them work in the restaurant, he does the fatherly thing and fires them (out of love).

The kids head out to have the summer of their lives, only to hate every second of it. Luckily, they come across a blueberry farm, and get sucked into the berry/marijuana business before they know it! Bob and Linda are dealing with their sense of legality by bringing on Mickey as the unpaid staff to replace the kids — remember Mickey, who held Bob and several others as hostages back in Season 2 (Bob Day Afternoon).

Mickey tries to dig through Bob’s basement to reach the bank he previously tried to rob, resulting in Bob firing him. However, he redeems himself by explaining the type of farm the kids are at, and taking Bob and Linda there.

DEA move in soon after, and the entire family finds themselves on the ground with arms held high — except Mickey, who doesn’t grasp the concept.

Talk about a great summer — back to the parental drawing board, Bob.

Review

The Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Zucchini Burger is an 80/20 patty with sautéed zucchini, and a yogurt-dill-yellow pepper mixture on top. The recipe calls for brioche slider buns, but we went for the full burger — go big brioche or go home, right?

This was a really tasty summer burger, one I would definitely revisit once we’ve finished our first pass through the cookbook. The zucchini gives the burger a fresh taste, the yogurt and dill give it some great pop, and the yellow pepper adds some crunch.

My biggest changes would be to add more dill to the yogurt, to really drive it home, and to double the amount of zucchinis on the burger — once sautéed, they really shrink down.

In the end, this is the kind of burger you want on a hot summer day, with some Calypso music playing, and maybe with some “blueberries”.
