It’s Fun to Eat at the Rye-MCA Burger

Bob finds himself in a normal, run-of-the-mill predicament: Having a drug-induced make-out session with his sister-in-law after she picks him up from the dentist. After coming clean to Linda, Bob is forced to help build up Gayle’s self-esteem and find her a new man to dote on.

Thankfully Dr. Yap, a “Prince of Persuasia” graduate, provides just that opportunity through his weekend timeshare in the mountains. It’s another normal weekend for Bob with some skiing, a cold jacuzzi, and getting a tooth pulled with pliers, but in the end Yap and Gayle are walking arm and arm.

Before we get to the Burger of the Day, let’s get to the episode rundown:

Review

The Rye-MCA Burger is an all-beef patty that sits on top of Boston lettuce, completely covered in cheddar cheese — yes, there is a hamburger patty in the photo — and topped with sautéed onions, avocado, and brown mustard. Oh, and it comes on rye bread.

On paper, this sounds like a really good burger and heavy on the German side of things — rye bread, brown mustard, onions — but in reality it doesn’t completely come together.

To start, toasting the rye bread is a must, otherwise you end up with a lot of mush and no crunch in this burger. The Boston lettuce is a nice change of pace, and you can’t go wrong with almost a quarter inch of cheddar cheese. Brown mustard is always a welcomed topping, as are the onions.

The recipe calls for avocado — for the episode purist —  or horseradish sauce. We found the best combo is a little of both. The horsey sauce gives this burger a much needed kick in the taste department. Outside of the burger, no other flavor really shines here.

Perhaps it is the avocado that doesn’t fully fit, perhaps our mouths were still numb from visiting the dentist. But in the end, it was a good burger, but didn’t wow us.
